Just had a look at this problem again. Remembered the netsetup.log file that can be found in C:\Windows\Debug.
Found more information:
08/17 09:25:02 NetpValidateName: checking to see if ‘ABCDE’ is valid as type 3 name
08/17 09:25:02 NetpCheckDomainNameIsValid for ‘ABCDE’ returned 0x54b
08/17 09:25:02 NetpCheckDomainNameIsValid [ Exists ] for ‘ABCDE’ returned 0x54b
This indicates a problem resolving the specified domain name. So, started a check of everything that could be causing this to fail.
- Make sure the client is receiving correct IP information from the DHCP server.
- Make sure the server has a correct IP Configuration
- Ensure all the required SRV records are listed in DNS.
- Check that NetBIOS is enabled on the DC and the client.
For me, I had disabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP on all DC’s. Now changed that and am now waiting for another install to complete.
